Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about playing Fisherman, accounts, controls and browser support on playquandle.
What is Fisherman?
Fisherman is an embedded browser fishing arcade. You cast a moving hook into a lively seaside scene and react quickly to catch nimble fish. Every successful catch adds to your score, and faster, smaller fish are worth more. You have three hooks per attempt — use them wisely.
How do I control the game?
Tap the screen on a touch device or click with a mouse to cast the moving hook. Time your tap so the hook lines up with a fish as it swims past. The controls are intentionally simple — reaction and timing matter most.
How many hooks do I get per run?
Three hooks per attempt. Once all three are used, your run ends and your score is set. Each cast is a decision, so watch the scene for a moment before committing.
How do I score more points?
Target the quicker, smaller fish. They are harder to catch because they dart around, but they reward you with a bigger score boost than the slow, easy targets. Patience and timing are the key to a strong score.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is needed to play. If you do create one, you can save a display name on this device for future features. Creating an account is always optional.
Do I need to install anything?
Nothing to install. The game runs directly in your browser as an embedded frame on both desktop and mobile. Open the page and play.
Is the weekly board a sample rankings?
No. The board on the tournament page is a decorative preview with illustrative sample entries. It exists to show how a ranking layout could look — the entries are not live scores from real players.
Which browsers work best?
Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari all handle the embedded game well on both desktop and mobile. Keep your browser updated for the smoothest experience. See the compatibility guide for device-specific tips.
The game is not loading — what should I try?
First, refresh the page. Then check that JavaScript is enabled and that your browser is reasonably up to date. Closing other heavy tabs can help on older devices. The performance checklist covers the most common fixes in detail.
My keyboard does not seem to work in the game. Why?
This is almost always a focus issue. Click inside the game frame first — one click moves the browser's focus into the embedded game, and your keyboard inputs will then reach it correctly. See the focus and frames guide for a full explanation.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap the screen to cast the hook on a touch device. Landscape orientation often gives the game more room, and closing unused tabs keeps performance smooth. The mobile play guide has more tips for smaller screens.
How do I contact the team?
Head to the contact page for the team email address and postal details. We read every message and reply as soon as we can.
Does the game work offline?
Practice runs work while the page stays open, but submitting a score to the weekly board and loading current standings both need a connection. If your network drops mid-run, finish the session and submit once you are back online.
Are there seasonal events?
The board itself is the season: it resets every Monday, so each week is a fresh competition. Keep an eye on the blog — when we adjust the game or the site, we write about it there first.
Can I play with a keyboard only?
The core loop is pointer-driven — casting and reeling respond to mouse or touch. We are exploring full keyboard support; until then, a trackpad or touchscreen is the way onto the ice.
